The journey from
Carcassonne takes you along the dramatic gorge of the
Orbiel and and past the towering Chateaux de Lastours,
four Cathar castles in various states of picturesque
ruin all perched on the same hilltop.
After Lastours comes the beautiful village of Roquefère.
Here you turn right, past one of the best restaurants
in the area with two orange trees framing the front
door, and a short curving lane through chestnut groves
brings you to the cottage Les Marronniers in the village
of Labastide Esparbairenque, set among wooded hills
providing a riot of orange and yellows in autumn. |
